Transit Tokens
In July of 2016, Transit launched peggo, our electronic smartcard system. The new system will result in the elimination of paper bus passes and paper tickets.
As part of the planning for the introduction of peggo, we consulted Winnipeg school divisions, non-profit organizations, and Human Service agencies on their needs after paper passes and tickets are eliminated.
To continue serving the social services and school divisions need for single ride fare option and flexibility in the provision of bus transportation, Winnipeg Transit has developed a Transit Token Program. The Tokens provide users with a discrete fare option that can be reused for many years.
Adult and youth fare tokens have been produced and are available for purchase at Winnipeg Transit’s Business Centre located at 421 Osborne Street.
Organization criteria to qualify for tokens:
- government agencies
- schools, and school-based programming
- registered charities with Canada Revenue Agency
- not for profit agencies whose purpose is ‘social welfare’ as defined by the Canada Revenue Agency
To order tokens your organization first needs to submit a Winnipeg Transit token program application form. The form takes approximately one week to process. Once approved your organization will be able to purchase tokens. You’ll need to fill out and email a Winnipeg Transit token order form.
Tokens must be picked up at our 421 Osborne Street location unless other arrangements are made with Transit staff. Payment for tokens is required at the time of pickup unless other arrangements are agreed to in advance. Tokens are sold in quantities of 20.
