Winnipeg Transit Travel Training Program

Learn how to use public transit with confidence. Our Travel Training Program is a free service designed to teach bus riders how to access transit options safely and independently.

What You Will Learn

This program helps you understand how to:

  • Plan a trip
  • Read transit maps and schedules
  • Recognize bus numbers, stops, and landmarks
  • Understand safety and security options
  • Board a bus with a mobility aid and secure a wheelchair or scooter
  • Pay fares and buy passes
  • Transfer between buses

Our Trainers

Our trainers have in-depth knowledge of Winnipeg Transit services and are committed to helping you ride successfully. They tailor training to your individual needs, making it as accessible and effective as possible.

Types of Travel Training

Choose In-person or virtual training sessions, including:

  • Basic Transit Orientation: A short session for those with some transit experience
  • Transit Presentations: We offer customized presentations on Winnipeg Transit’s designed for targeted community groups (e.g. accessibility features, low-income transit program, etc.)
  • Mobility Device Sessions: Hands-on practice on how to use your mobility devices to board a bus
  • One-on-One Training: Personalized training for people who need extra time to learn transit options
  • Train the trainer workshops : Training for staff and volunteers at agencies that assist people learning to use transit for service providers

Using the Primary Transit Network and its feeder routes

On June 29, 2025, Winnipeg Transit is launching the Primary Transit Network and its feeder routes. This system will have more frequent and reliable service. Travel Training will help riders adjust by offering sessions on:

  • How the new network and feeder routes work
  • Finding and using new routes, stops, and schedules
  • Using trip-planning tools

To request a session for your group, use our online form. The Transit Training team will customize a presentation suitable for your group.
