About our Charter Service

Transit bus rental

A chartered transit bus is one of the most economical ways of moving a group around the City of Winnipeg. If you are planning a wedding, conference, convention, corporate event, sightseeing tour, school field trip, senior’s outing or airport-hotel transfer, an experienced professional Winnipeg Transit Bus Operator at the wheel means a safe and relaxed ride for your group.

1. Availability for rental:

Day of Week Time Period
Monday to Friday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 1 a.m.
Saturdays 5 a.m. – 1 a.m.
Sundays / Holidays 7 a.m. – midnight
  • _*Note:* A new charter will not be started after 10 p.m. Rental of any Winnipeg Transit bus is subject to availability.

2. Bus rental rates:

Hourly Rate Sept. 1, 2024 – Aug. 31, 2025
Standard 40-foot bus (except Senior Citizen Agencies) $154.00
Standard 40-foot bus (Senior Citizen Agencies only) $116.00
Articulated 60-foot bus $231.00
  • Note: You will be charged from the time the bus departs the garage until it returns to the garage. Prices do not include GST. Please note that there is a minimum charge of 2 hours for all charters. Rates are subject to change without notice.

For your comfort, all transit buses used for charter service are low-floor accessible, have a kneeling feature to lower the front door to curb level and a ramp for accessible boarding and wheelchair access, and are climate controlled for year-round comfort. All charter passengers must be seated, no standing permitted.

Standard Transit bus 40-ft (12.2m):

  • Seating for either:
    • 38 passengers, or
    • Two passengers travelling with a wheelchair or scooter and 28 others

Articulating “Bendy” Transit bus 60-ft (18.3m):

  • Seating for either:
    • 54 passengers, or
    • Two passengers travelling with a wheelchair or scooter and 44 others

All buses equipped with an onboard address system. Please indicate at time of booking if this will be required.

3. Booking a rental bus:

Advance notice for reservation

You may submit your rental request online or by phone:

  • Minimum ten (10) business days for simple, point A to point B service contract
  • Minimum twenty (20) business days for extensive contract involving several trips or stops

To reach the charter office:

Winnipeg Transit Charter Office (204) 986-4322. Open Weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and noon, and between 1 and 4:30 p.m.

Please ensure when requesting a rental bus that the information you are supplying is complete, accurate and includes the following:

  • Date of charter
  • Pick up and return locations and times
  • Total number of passengers
  • Wheelchair securement locations required (two available per bus)
  • Client name, mailing address and contact phone number

Confirmation & Booking

After submitting your request, it will be reviewed and Transit will respond to you with a cost estimate quote (please note that the final price may be different than the estimate). Once you receive the confirmed quote please review in detail, sign and return to us to proceed with your charter service booking.

Charter bookings are finalized in writing, details must be confirmed by you and Winnipeg Transit. Transit will not dispatch a bus if the agreement is not finalized.

4. Conditions & Limitations:

Service Area & Availability:

  • Our charter bus range is limited to destinations that are within Winnipeg, bounded by the Perimeter Highway or the city limits, whichever is greater. The rental of any Winnipeg Transit bus is subject to availability of equipment and Operator.

Cancellation Clauses:

  • A cancellation charge of $144.00 will apply to all charters cancelled later than 11 a.m. on the last business day prior to date of charter service, unless cancellation is severe weather related.
  • Winnipeg Transit reserves the right to cancel any rental/charter due to emergency conditions, and Transit shall not be responsible for any losses incurred as a result of such a cancellation.

Rules of Conduct:

  • Rental/Charter buses are governed by Public Transit By-Law 63-2017.
  • Consumption of alcohol or drug use is strictly prohibited.
  • Smoking is prohibited on all of our buses.
  • No animals (except service animals) are allowed on charter buses.
  • Sorry, we do not charter for “Safe Grads” or “Pub Crawls”.

Payment:

  • A deposit is not required. Once service has been delivered, Winnipeg Transit’s accounting department will send an invoice to the charter client.
  • Any damage or excessive uncleanliness of/to the vehicle caused by the passengers will be charged by Winnipeg Transit to the charter client.
